Colon Cancer Screening

An important wellness role of gastroenterology is to provide colon cancer screenings. Colorectal Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women in the U.S. Yet if discovered early, it can be up to 90% curable.

    1. Are you 50 or over and never had a screening exam?
    2. Has it been 10 years since your last exam?
    3. Do you have a family history of polyps / cancer?

If you answer yest to any of these questions, you should consider being screened for colon cancer. It could save your life.

Ninety percent of colorectal cancer deaths could be avoided if people would get tested, a national expert on the disease said. "With colorectal cancer screenings — even if cancer is found — nine out of 10 people will be alive in five years," said Dr.Durado Brooks, director of prostate and colorectal cancer at the American Cancer Society National Office.
