Animal Bites

When a person is bitten by a domestic animal, there is a risk of developing an infection. Rabies can occur, but it is usually after a wild animal bite.

If your child is bitten:

  • Wash the area with soap and water
  • Apply triple antibiotic ointment and a bandage
  • Check to see if the animals shots are up to date
  • Check to see if your child has received a recent tetanus shot.

Call or make an appointment online if:

  • The bite is more than a scratch
  • Your child needs a tetanus shot
  • The child was bitten by a wild animal
