Janet L. Titus,
MD
Janet L. Titus, MD, has been providing patient-centered health
care in Northwest Arkansas for nearly 25 years. Dr. Titus is
from a small city in Iowa where her home had a great view of
the Mississippi River. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the
University of Iowa in 1976 with a degree in Social Work. In
1980, she finished her medical degree at the University of
Iowa, College of Medicine and came to Arkansas for her residency
at the University of Arkansas Area Health Education Center
in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. During and after her residency, Dr.
Titus spent four months on medical missionary trips working
with indigenous populations in the mountains of Mexico. She
describes her time there as a "fascinating and gratifying
cross-cultural experience!" Returning stateside, she taught for a year in the Family Practice
Residency program in Pine Bluff.
In 1984, with the assistance of south Washington County community
leaders, Dr. Titus founded the Winslow Community Health Center
where she practiced Family Medicine, including five years of
obstetrics. Dr. Titus has always had a great interest in women's
health and women would come from as far away as Springdale
and Fort Smith to her small rural clinic. Returning to her
academic roots, in 1988 she started part-time work with the
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Family Practice
Residency Training Program in Fayetteville and became an Assistant
Professor of Family Practice. Much of her focus there was to
train resident physicians in gynecology care and procedures.
Dr. Titus is board certified by the American Board of Family
Practice and is a certified menopausal practitioner through
the North American Menopause Society. Dr. Titus attended the
first “Educate the Educators” training about the
new Human Papilloma Vaccine (HPV) vaccine given by the American
Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and has been speaking
on this topic in Northwest Arkansas. She is currently limiting
her practice to outpatient gynecologic care including wellness
and health promotion, menopausal care, contraception, menstrual
irregularities and outpatient gynecologic procedures.
