Dr. Michelle C. Walters joined The Breast Center on March 1, 2022. Dr. Walters has over 24 years of experience as a breast radiologist in the Dallas area where she interpreted mammograms, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI exams. She also performed mammogram guided, ultrasound guided, as well as MRI guided breast biopsies.
“I was impressed The Breast Center offered similar advanced breast imaging services as my practice in Dallas” said Dr. Walters. After talking with the partners at The Breast Center, she discovered they shared the same vision and mission.
“I am passionate about breast screening, early detection, and helping women stay healthy,” said Dr. Walters. “For women with dense breast tissue who have a higher risk for breast cancer, additional screening tools such as automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) and MRI are valuable, even life-saving.” The Breast Center is the only provider with ABUS in Arkansas since 2012.
Dr. Walters completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Texas A & M and her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Following an internship, residency, and fellowship in MRI and Breast Imaging, Dr. Walters moved to Dallas and became a partner at Radiologic Associates of North Texas where she has provided breast imaging for the last 24 years.
Dr. Walters is a fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology, and has held many leadership positions with this organization, including the Presidency. She has published a number of professional papers, and was also the medical columnist for Sí Magazine, a local Hispanic Life publication in Dallas/Ft. Worth. For the past two years she has been recognized as a D magazine “Top Doctor” in the Dallas area.
Dr. Walters and her husband, Matthew, visited Northwest Arkansas numerous times when their son was running track and attending the University of Arkansas. They loved the people, the community and the close proximity to outdoor activities. Their son graduated May 2021, and is now a Site Reliability Engineer at J.B. Hunt. Their daughter graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, AR, in 2017 and is currently attending graduate school at Sarah Lawrence College studying Creative Writing. Dr. Walters husband Matthew, has recently retired from his 32 year career with Bank of America where he worked as a managing director in the Private Bank.
Aside from her career, Dr. Walters enjoys hiking, biking, horseback riding, and other activities outdoors. She and her family play Ultimate together, and she was a founder of Texas Youth Ultimate, as well as a board member of the Dallas Ultimate Association. She is looking forward to exploring more trails, rivers, and lakes in Northwest Arkansas with her two dogs, “Franklin” and “Ellie”.
The physicians and staff at The Breast Center are delighted to welcome Dr. Walters!
