On Friday, April 14, 2017, Welcome Health recognized Dr. James Norys of Fayetteville Diagnostic Clinic with the Jessie Bryant “Service First” Award for his 20 plus years of volunteer service and leadership to the free health center in Fayetteville.
Dr. Norys has volunteered medical services at Welcome Health, formerly Northwest Arkansas Free Health Center for over 20 years and currently serves as the Medical Director and President of the Board of Directors of Welcome Health.
According to Monika Fischer-Massey, the Executive Director of Welcome Health, “Dr. Norys is thoughtful, helpful and loved by many. His quiet nature has made him a hidden gem in our community. Because of his countless volunteer hours and his leadership over the last 20 years, we are where we are today.”
It is the first year Welcome Health has given the Jessie Bryant Service Award. The award is named after the founder of the free health center, Jessie Bryant. In 1986 Jessie founded the free health clinic in the basement of St. James United Methodist Church in downtown Fayetteville to offer free medical care to her neighbors in need.
Welcome Health provides healthcare services, dental and pharmacy to those in need who are underinsured, uninsured or cannot afford their copays. The clinic is located at 11O0 N. Woolsey Avenue and is open 5 days a week. There is a full time nurse practitioner, but the other medical staff is volunteer based.
